Accidents at high speed result in catastrophic injuries and often fatalities.

There are millions of car crashes in the U.S. each year. The majority of those accidents result in serious injuries or worse. Some collisions, however, are deadlier than others. Accidents at high speed result in catastrophic injuries and often fatalities. Some types increase the risk of death regardless of speed or the vehicles involved. To help you recognize the risks and prevent these crashes, let’s look at a few of the most dangerous car crashes and their causes.

Head-On Collisions

The most dangerous accident type is the head-on collision. Head-on collisions factor both vehicles’ speeds at the time of the crash, which means the impact can be double that of what occurs in any other type of accident.

For example, two vehicles traveling at 25 miles per hour will strike together and create an impact equal to 50 miles per hour. When two cars collide, the resulting injuries are far more severe than when the car hits a solid object. These crashes result in extensive property damage, catastrophic injuries, and death.

Rollover Accident

Some t-bone crashes are so severe that the victim’s car is tipped onto its side and begins to roll. In other cases, a rollover occurs when a large vehicle, such as an SUV, slams on the brakes. This causes a shift in the vehicle’s center of gravity and leads to it sliding and tipping over onto its side. Rollovers are extremely hazardous because the passengers’ bodies are thrown around the inside of the cabin. Often, injuries aren’t caused by the initial impact but due to the body hitting the inside of the car at high speeds. That phenomenon is repeated many times in a rollover crash, typically resulting in severe injuries.

T-Bone Collision

T-bone accidents involve one car crashing into the side of another. These accidents are most common in intersections where vehicles often drive perpendicular to one another. Most cars do not have much protection along the sides, making side collisions dangerous for drivers and passengers. In fact, side collisions account for nearly 25% of all traffic deaths. To avoid these collisions, you should look both ways before driving through an intersection and be aware of other cars around you in a parking lot.
