Frequent Results Of Medical Malpractice

Frequent Results Of Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice is a situation that occurs everyday, and while that’s true it is also unfortunate.

Medical malpractice is a situation that occurs everyday, and while that’s true it is also unfortunate. Patients should not have to worry about the care they’ll receive when they enter a hospital. Medical malpractice isn’t the case of a doctor or nurse intentionally harming a patient. That would be a rare scenario. Rather, it’s the result of these medical professionals failing to meet the standard of care, whether it’s due to carelessness, lack of knowledge, or just a misunderstanding. Medical malpractice cases can differ, as there are a wide variety of ways in which one can suffer from it.

Anesthesia Error

Anesthesia error is a result of medical malpractice. These errors can be caused by malfunctions with equipment, but it’s more likely that the result was from negligence by the medical staff. The most common fault is when medical professionals administer too much or too little anesthesia. As a patient, too much anesthesia can cause impairment, seizures, or respiratory distress, while not administering enough of it causes unimaginable pain. Other issues could be delayed delivery, administering the incorrect drug, or combining the anesthesia with prescription drugs.

Misdiagnosis Or Failure To Diagnose

The diagnosis is a critical step in the care process. It specifically determines how the patient will be treated going forward, which is why a mistake can be costly. If a patient receives the wrong diagnosis, it leaves them susceptible to incorrect treatment. Not only that, but patients could potentially be prescribed drugs they don’t really need, all because of a misdiagnosis. That’s a small example, as misdiagnoses can lead to much more severe, possibly fatal results. A failure to diagnose has a similar outcome. If a patient comes to the ER showing symptoms of some type of condition, the doctor should have a diagnosis by the end of that consultation. If the patient is not admitted, and then later on suffers harm that could have been prevented, that stems from the doctor’s failure to diagnose (and then failure to not admit the patient).

Birth Injury

One of the main issues that comes from malpractice is birth injury. The condition is exactly what it states: an injury suffered by the infant (or even mother) due to negligence during the process of birth. The most common result from birth injury is either cerebral palsy or shoulder dystocia. If you or a loved one has suffered from any type of medical malpractice, you have the right to an attorney to pursue compensation.
