The Most Dangerous Kinds of Car Accidents

Driving a car is one of the most dangerous activities that Americans participate in on a regular basis. It’s how our society runs, and is often unavoidable outside of urban areas. Every day, more than 90 people die in car crashes in the United States. Far more sustain life-altering injuries. In order to reduce the risk that you become a victim of such an accident yourself, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with what kinds of car accidents cause the most damage. Here are the most dangerous car accidents.

The Most Dangerous Kinds of Car Accidents

All car crashes are dangerous. But which ones cause the most injuries?

Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions are not terribly common, but they do tend to cause severe injury or even death. This should come as no surprise. Head-on collisions with stationary objects can be extremely deadly at high speeds, but if you collide with an oncoming vehicle the results can be worse even at low speeds. This is because you have to account not only for your own momentum, but that of the other driver.

Like we said, this form of car accident thankfully does not occur too often. They most often happen when an individual goes over the line and into oncoming traffic, or inadvertently enters a one-way space from the wrong side.

Broadside Collisions

You can’t overstate just how dangerous head-on collisions are. But they do have one thing going for them from a safety perspective: the front of vehicles are designed to crumple and absorb momentum.

The same cannot be said of broadside collisions. In everyday speech, you may hear these referred to as “T-bone” crashes. This refers to when one vehicle directly strikes another on its side.

Like we hinted at early, this is one of the most dangerous car accident scenarios because there is little to protect a driver or passenger when their vehicle is struck from the side.

They occur far more often than our first example. Most commonly, they take place at intersections—such as when an individual runs a red light or a stop sign.

Pedestrian Accidents

Some of the most dangerous car accidents involve a party that is not in a car at all. Pedestrian accidents are all too common, at everywhere from busy street crossings to parking lots.

It should come as no surprise that pedestrian accidents tend to be exceptionally dangerous. Most people who get into accidents have the remarkable advantage of being protected by the vehicle itself. This is not the case when a pedestrian is hit by a car.

Like other forms of car accidents, pedestrian accidents typically occur due to the sheer negligence of a driver. They can result from distraction, speeding, or even intoxication on the part of a person behind the wheel.

If you or a loved one was seriously injured in one of these kinds of accidents, we believe that the party at fault should be held responsible. A lawsuit can help to cover not only the costs of medical care, but also of lost wages and any future treatments or rehabilitation.
